Table Finish Information
Durable Finish for Solid Wood Furniture
Our standard finish for solid wood furniture is a professionally sprayed, oil-based lacquer designed to provide a durable, smooth, and protective surface.
Each piece typically receives 3–4 sprayed coats, with sanding between coats to create a refined, consistent finish while maintaining the natural character of the wood.
Built for Everyday Use
Dining tables and other furniture surfaces are meant to be used. From family dinners and entertaining to homework, crafts, and everyday life, our lacquer finish is selected to provide dependable protection against normal household wear.
Benefits of Our Lacquer Finish
Water Resistant
Cold drinks and normal moisture will not typically leave water rings, making coasters optional for everyday use.
Easy to Clean
Most spills can simply be wiped away without damaging the finish. Unlike softer or more maintenance-intensive finishes, lacquer provides a sealed surface that is easier to maintain.
Long-Lasting Protection
Our lacquer finish does not require regular re-oiling or routine reapplication and will not dry out over time like some penetrating oil finishes.
Scratch & Wear Resistant
While no furniture finish is completely scratch-proof, our sprayed lacquer provides a hard, durable surface designed for regular household use.
Care Recommendations
To keep your furniture looking its best:
Protect Against Heat
Always use trivets or hot pads beneath hot cookware, serving dishes, or other heated items.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Do not expose the finish to solvents or chemically abrasive products such as acetone or nail polish remover.
Cleaning
For routine cleaning, we recommend a damp cloth, mild soap and water, or a cleaning product specifically labeled safe for finished wood furniture.
Avoid abrasive scrubbers, harsh chemicals, and aggressive household cleaners.
Barn Wood or "Distressed" Finishes
Certain barn wood finishes utilize a water-based polyurethane rather than our standard lacquer system in order to achieve the desired color and appearance.
While still very durable, these finishes may be slightly more sensitive to standing moisture. We recommend using coasters and wiping up spills promptly on barn wood pieces.
Unless otherwise specified, our solid wood furniture receives our standard sprayed lacquer finish.
Sheen
Our standard finish is satin / low sheen.
We find that this provides the best balance between highlighting the natural beauty of solid wood and maintaining a practical surface for everyday use. Satin finishes also tend to show fewer fingerprints, smudges, and minor imperfections than higher-gloss finishes.
If you would like a higher sheen, or glossier finish on your table, please let us know and we will coordinate it for your order!
